Common problems and tasks
Choose the right path
Webcam diagnostics inspect access, preview, settings, cadence, and snapshots; Online Mirror is a simpler appearance check.
Camera setup
Choose the right camera tool
Use Webcam Test when you need to check camera access and browser-reported video information. Use Online Mirror when you mainly want a flexible self-view.
Two camera jobs
Diagnostics or a flexible self-view?
Webcam diagnostics
Webcam Test is the camera-access and browser-state task: choose the device, inspect the stream and reported video settings, decoded preview dimensions, delivered-frame cadence, and capability ranges, then record a snapshot or visual observation for that run.
Online mirror view
Online Mirror is the flexible self-view task: adjust presentation with zoom, brightness, rotation, fit/fill, mirroring, freeze, and fullscreen without claiming to change the camera itself.
Better checks
Run a clean camera check
Grant access and choose the intended camera
Start the dedicated tool and grant camera permission only when the browser asks. If multiple cameras are exposed, select the camera you intend to inspect. Permission is not proof that the camera is healthy, and a listed device is not proof that its hardware fully works.
Check the preview under consistent conditions
In Webcam Test, check the intended camera, preview, framing, clarity, lighting, motion, browser-negotiated track settings, decoded frame size, and observed preview cadence where supported. For comparisons, keep the same camera, browser, lighting, connection, and relevant OS or browser camera settings. Online Mirror brightness, zoom, and rotation change only the preview display, not camera hardware quality.
Change one variable and repeat
For a black or wrong-camera preview, unexpected dimensions or FPS, blurry or dark image, or an interrupted stream, change one relevant condition—selected camera, browser permission, browser, USB port or cable, lighting, OS camera setting, or a competing camera app—and retry before concluding the hardware failed.
Webcam diagnostics
Webcam Test shows one explicit capture run, the selected and actual browser-exposed camera, negotiated track settings, decoded preview dimensions, delivered-frame cadence where supported, and capability ranges. These are not a factory sensor certificate, guaranteed maximum resolution, laboratory frame-rate certification, formal image-quality calibration, or camera health certificate. Clear, blurry, dark, bright, flicker, uneven, and no-image choices are user observations, not automatic defect classification.
Online mirror view
Online Mirror uses the same browser camera stream for self-view. Mirror, fit/fill, zoom, brightness, and rotation only change page presentation. They cannot prove or modify physical camera orientation, lens, sensor exposure, firmware, hardware zoom, or camera calibration.
Local by default
Preview and snapshot handling stay local to the browser. Camera tools do not automatically record or upload your video.
