Choose the right audio test
Start with whether you are checking audio output, microphone or voice input, or a generated reference sound.
Playback & channels
- Speaker TestUse generated tones and channel checks to confirm what you hear from speakers. You confirm the audible result; the page does not listen automatically. This is not real dB SPL or speaker-health certification.
- Headphone TestUse headphone or earbud channel, phase, and tone checks when you want to compare what you hear on each side. Start at a comfortable low volume; this is not a medical hearing test.
- Stereo TestUse dedicated left/right/center, phase, mono-collapse, and balance checks when the problem is channel routing or stereo behavior. What you hear depends on the OS mixer, routing, wiring, Bluetooth profile, and output device.
Microphone & voice
- Microphone TestGrant microphone permission only after user action, then inspect a live level meter, waveform, optional short local recording, and device switching where supported. Levels are relative dBFS—not calibrated dB SPL—and AGC, noise suppression, or echo cancellation can alter the observed signal.
- Pitch DetectorUse local microphone input to estimate one dominant pitch and inspect frequency, note, octave, cents, confidence, and stability. It is not a chord detector or laboratory tuner calibration, and microphone or browser processing affects the result.
- Vocal Range TestUse guided low and high observations to explore an observed vocal span without forcing notes. Warm up gently and stop on pain, hoarseness, or discomfort; this is not medical or professional fach/voice-type certification.

Audio safety
Start at a comfortable low volume. Pure tones, high frequencies, and non-sine waveforms can feel harsh. Stop immediately for pain, discomfort, tinnitus, dizziness, or an unusual sensation. Do not raise volume aggressively to force an inaudible tone. For Vocal Range, warm up gently, do not force notes, and stop for pain or hoarseness.

How the audio tools relate
Speaker vs Headphone vs Stereo
Speaker Test is general speaker/output confirmation. Headphone Test is for headphone/earbud-focused listening checks. Stereo Test is the dedicated channel, routing, phase, and balance workflow.
Microphone vs Pitch Detector
Microphone Test verifies browser microphone input, level, waveform, optional local recording, and supported device switching. Pitch Detector estimates one dominant pitch from microphone samples; it cannot replace general microphone troubleshooting.
Pitch Detector vs Vocal Range
Pitch Detector estimates the current dominant pitch. Vocal Range Test guides low and high stable observations over a session; it is not a singing-quality score.
Better checks
Run a clean audio check
Start quietly and choose the intended device
For playback and Tone Generator, start at a comfortable low system volume. The webpage cannot control OS volume, amplifier gain, DAC gain, powered-speaker gain, or headphone sensitivity. For microphone tools, grant permission only when needed and select the intended browser-visible input if the tool offers selection.
Keep the signal path consistent
When comparing results, keep applicable conditions consistent: input/output device, wired versus Bluetooth path, browser, OS input/output settings, balance, microphone processing such as AGC, noise suppression, or echo cancellation where exposed, and room or source position for microphone comparisons where relevant.
Change one variable and repeat
If a result looks suspicious, change one relevant condition—such as the output/input device, cable, port, Bluetooth/wired mode, browser, OS setting, or microphone selection—and test again before concluding the hardware failed.
Playback / listening checks
Speaker, Headphone, and Stereo Tests generate audio and rely on what you hear. They cannot automatically certify speaker or headphone driver health, real acoustic dB SPL, calibrated frequency response, room acoustics, or amplifier condition. A missing or different channel is evidence to re-check routing, device, and path, not automatic proof of a broken driver or cable.
Microphone / pitch / vocal observations
Microphone Test, Pitch Detector, and Vocal Range observations depend on microphone hardware, browser capture, OS/device processing, room, source, AGC, echo cancellation, and noise suppression. dBFS is a relative digital level, not calibrated SPL. Pitch is an algorithmic estimate, not laboratory calibration. Vocal Range is observational, not a medical diagnosis or professional voice classification.
Generated reference audio
Tone Generator requests digital Web Audio output. A displayed or requested frequency is not proof of acoustic frequency at the ear, and internal gain is not acoustic SPL. Its 20 Hz–20 kHz settings do not guarantee a device reproduces the full range or that a user hears the full range. Do not infer hearing loss.
